Our group is tackling the age old questions, "What are the students in my class thinking? Are they thinking? How can I support their thinking?" We are using a wonderful a wonderful website on Visible Thinking.
The site has a number of thinking routines which are strategies to teach the students to expand their thinking. The routines can be used for any grade and for any content area. An example is See Think Wonder which would be fantastic when introducing a book or discussing illustrations. We are going to give a 'thinking routine' a go in class and feedback the results at our next meeting. Wish us luck as we expand our 'tool box' of strategies and extend the thinking of our students!
